Vibe coding for beginners. Your first app in plain words: install the agent, say what you want, and read what it built. Free, without a card.
1. Install the agent
With Node.js on your computer, run npm install -g @getmegabrain/cli. On a Mac you can skip the terminal: download MegaBrain for Mac (macOS 13 or later on Apple silicon (M1 or newer)).
2. Open a folder and say what you want
Make an empty folder, run megabrain in it and sign in once. Then describe the result in plain words: “a to-do list in the browser that keeps my tasks after a reload”.
3. Let it build and run it
The agent chooses the tools, writes the files, runs the app and the tests, and fixes what fails before it says it is done.
4. Steer with follow-ups
Ask for changes the way you would ask a person: “make the buttons bigger”, “add a dark mode”. Ask it to explain any change in plain words before you keep it.
Questions
How do I start vibe coding?+
Install an AI coding agent, open a folder and describe what you want. With MegaBrain: npm install -g @getmegabrain/cli, then megabrain in the folder, sign in once and type what the app should do.
Can I vibe code with no coding experience?+
Yes. You describe what you want and the agent writes the code. Reading what it changed helps, and you can ask it to explain any change in plain words.
Is vibe coding free?+
It can be. Free costs nothing and needs no card: the agent in your terminal, your editor and the Mac app, the free models, and your own API keys and local models (Ollama, LM Studio) with no limits from us.
What can I build?+
Anything that runs on your computer and that you can describe: a website, a script that renames your files, a small game, a tool for your own data. The agent works in your folder with the languages and tools you choose.
What should my first prompt be?+
Something small and complete that says what done looks like: “a single web page with a timer that counts down from 25 minutes and beeps at zero”. Then grow it one follow-up at a time.
